Trauma Counseling
Reclaim Your Life with Compassionate Support
Recovering from Trauma Takes Strength—and Support
Trauma can leave deep, invisible scars that affect every aspect of life. Whether it stems from abuse, violence, loss, an accident, or a life-threatening event, trauma can shake your sense of safety, identity, and connection.
While some people recover over time with support from friends or family, others are left with lasting emotional pain, confusion, fear, or posttraumatic stress. That’s where trauma therapy comes in.
At Jessica Wolfe, LCSW LLC, trauma counseling is designed to help you safely process painful experiences, reconnect with your inner strength, and begin healing in a way that feels secure and empowering.
What Is Trauma?
Trauma refers to any emotionally overwhelming experience that disrupts your ability to cope and leaves you feeling helpless, fearful, or disconnected. Common trauma sources include:
Sexual, emotional, or physical abuse
Neglect or abandonment
Car accidents or natural disasters
Sudden death of a loved one
Exposure to war or violence
Medical trauma or invasive procedures
Witnessing domestic or community violence
Even if the traumatic event occurred long ago, its emotional impact can persist—showing up in relationships, behavior, sleep, or mood.
Why Therapy Works for Anxiety (When Medication Might Not)
Anxiety medication can help reduce symptoms—but it doesn’t teach your brain how to respond differently to triggers. Therapy offers something more powerful: the ability to rewire anxious thought patterns and emotional reactions so that you can live with more freedom and calm.
Jessica uses a combination of:
Avoidance Symptoms:
- Avoiding places, people, or situations that trigger memories
- Emotional numbness, guilt, shame, or withdrawal
- Suppressing thoughts related to the trauma
Re-Experiencing Symptoms:
- Flashbacks or intrusive memories
- Nightmares
- Emotional distress or physical symptoms when triggered
Hyperarousal Symptoms:
- Anger, agitation, or hypervigilance
- Reckless behavior or self-harm
- Difficulty sleeping or concentrating
Negative Mood & Cognition Symptoms
- Loss of interest in once-enjoyable activities
- Memory problems related to the trauma
- Persistent sadness, fear, or distorted self-blame
If these symptoms sound familiar, therapy can provide the tools and support you need to move forward.
How Trauma Therapy Works
Jessica offers a trauma-informed approach rooted in safety, empowerment, and trust. Her work with trauma survivors—including those recovering from sexual abuse, childhood neglect, domestic violence, and PTSD—focuses on restoring a sense of control, emotional regulation, and meaning. Treatment may include:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to identify and shift harmful thought patterns
Mindfulness and grounding techniques to reduce anxiety and reconnect with the present
Psychoeducation to normalize your experience and reframe trauma responses
Somatic awareness tools to release trauma stored in the body
Emotion-focused therapy to address grief, fear, and inner conflict
Although Jessica does not offer EMDR, she can provide referrals for EMDR if clinically indicated as a complementary support.
